Firefighters have gained the upper hand of a large factory fire which began in Keilor East this morning.

Crews were called to the industrial premises at Thor St about 4am and while en route spotted smoke and flames about a kilometre away.

They arrived on scene to find the 10x40 metre factory well alight and used a disc cutter to access the roller door and get inside.

It’s believed the factory contains flammable gas cylinders and glue.

The blaze was quickly contained and declared under control at 6:45am.
