MFB was called to a shop fire on Sydney Rd at 1:43am this morning.

Crews arrived to find a fast developing fire which had spread to an adjoining shop and was threatening the nearby market.

Firefighters in Breathing Apparatus fought the fire internally, as the blaze had progressed into the roof space of the buildings measuring 10 by 25 metres.

Quick response by crews meant the blaze was under control in 40 minutes, with fire damage contained to the front of the premises with smoke and heat damage to the remainder.

No occupants were present at the time.

MFB Fire Investigators will attend to determine the cause.

City of Moreland representatives will also investigate the structural integrity of one of the shops.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also assisted on scene.
