06 Jul 2019
Firefighters called to a house ablaze in Macleod this morning got the fire under control in less than 15 minutes after they arrived on scene.

Crews were called to the May Street address at 6:41am, following multiple  calls to Triple Zero (000).

Thankfully all of the residents who were inside the home at the time managed to evacuate safely.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the smoke, firefighters quick made their way to the rear of the single story home.

Hose lines were used to contain the fire to the rear of the home, and to stop it from spreading to the neighbouring house.

Almost 30 firefighters worked to bring the fire under control by 7:04am.

Despite the quick action by crews, the rear of the home where the fire began has sustained extensive damage.

It’s not yet known what caused the fire to start, but MFB’s specialist Fire Investigation Unit will analyse the scene once it has been made safe.

There was a lot of smoke in the surrounding area, and MFB issued a community advice message for residents in Macleod.

MFB was assisted at the scene by Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria paramedics.
