MFB firefighters made quick work to extinguish a house fire in Hughesdale late this afternoon.

Crews were called to the property on Preston Road at 3:44pm following reports of smoke.

Initial crews arrived at the scene in six minutes and found a single storey timber house ablaze. More than 20 firefighters in Breathing Apparatus attacked the fire and managed to protect the homes on either side.

The fire was deemed under control at 4:06pm.

Asbestos was identified at the property and decontamination processes have been put in place.

Ambulance Victoria treated one person at the scene that was then transported to hospital.
