House fire contained in Mount Waverley

MFB crews responded to a house fire in Mount Waverley just before 2pm on Sunday afternoon.

Elderly residents safely evacuated before firefighters arrived on scene minutes later.

Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the rear of the house and brought the incident under control within 28 minutes.

Victoria Police are on scene assisting and both occupants have been handed into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics for assessment.

MFB will remain on scene for some time and the cause of the fire will be investigated.
