Home destroyed in suspicious blaze

Police are investigating after an Altona home was completed destroyed by fire.

Firefighters attended the blaze on Grieve Pde near Railway St just before 1am on March 3.

Numerous calls were received for the fire and on arrival firefighters were confronted with a fire in a single storey, unoccupied weatherboard house of approximately 14 squares.

The premises was totally destroyed by fire with most of the roof area collapsing to floor level.

Crews deemed the fire under control in 22 minutes, with stage 1 asbestos procedures in place and breathing apparatus in operation.

The cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious and police are investigating.

Six fire fighting appliances and the Breathing Apparatus Support unit attended the incident with 18 firefighters on scene.
