A large factory fire in Spotswood could be seen by motorist on the Westgate Bridge this morning.

MFB crews responded to the fire at the glass manufacturer at 11am this morning arriving on scene to find the fire well alight.

It’s believed a ruptured hydraulic hose caused the machinery fire that extensively damaged the upper level of the factory. A ladder platform was used to access the upper level of the factory to assess the damage and ensure the fire was out.

A number of factory employees were treated at the scene for the effects of smoke however all were allowed to go home.

Twenty-four firefighters where on scene with four pumpers, one rescue unit and one aerial unit.
