More than 50 MFB firefighters are currently fighting a blaze at a food processing factory on Bond Street in Mordialloc.
Firefighters were alerted just before 5pm this afternoon. Initial crews arrived on scene in seven minutes and were met with a single story tin factory measuring 80x40 meters producing a significant amount of smoke.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently working to get the fire under control using aerial appliances and attacking the blaze from multiple sides.
A Watch and Act community message has been issued advising the community to stay indoors, close their doors and windows, and turn off any heating and cooling systems.
Bond Street is currently closed. The community is asked to avoid the area and keep the roads clear for emergency services.
MFB is being supported on scene by CFA, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria.
UPDATE: As of 6:15 PM the fire has been deemed Under Control. Crews are expected to remain on scene for several hours.
At this stage the cause of the blaze has not been determined.
