MFB firefighters are currently on scene at a unit fire at Wendover Place in Yallambie.

Crews were called to the unit at 12:49pm this afternoon and arrived to find the fire spreading rapidly through to the roof.

Initially crews were unable to conduct an interior attack on the home because of the extent and ferocity of the fire.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to make sure no occupants were inside.

An aggressive attack was launched to ensure that the fire didn't spread to nearby properties as the home was a unit in a group of six.

The fire was declared under control at 1:22pm.

A male and female are in the care of Ambulance Victoria.

Four dogs were also rescued from the house, unfortunately three of the four were unable to be resuscitated by firefighters. The remaining dog has been transported to a local vet by Victoria Police.
