12 Dec 2016
MFB firefighters have stopped the spread of a fire which threatened a Melbourne apartment block this afternoon.

Crews were called to the 20 storey complex on Flinders Street just after 3pm following reports of a fire on an apartment balcony.

Fireys arrived to find thick smoke billowing from the 6th floor balcony and quickly sprang into action, isolating the fire before extinguishing it within minutes.

Firefighters and police evacuated approximately 200 people from the complex as a safety precaution, including one man who was inside the apartment when the fire broke out.

No one was injured during the incident and the damage is thought to have been contained to the balcony.

MFB Fire Investigators are currently on scene to investigate the cause of the blaze.
