Firefighters tackle Prahran unit fire

More than 25 firefighters were called to extinguished a fire that broke out in a three story complex in Prahran.

Crews arrived to find thick black smoke bellowing from a second floor unit on Essex St just before 9:30am.
A primary search was done immediately to ensure no one was inside.

The quick work of firefighters contained to the fire to the unit of origin which has sustained extensive damage.

A total of nine firefighting appliances, including one aerial appliances worked to bring the fire under control in under 30 minutes.

All units in complex were evacuated with no injuries reported.

The fire is believed to have started from a discarded cigarette.
