Firefighters have extinguished a fire which ripped through a Niddrie home last night.

Crews were called to the Cresswell home about 11.15pm and on arrival were confronted by thick smoke and flames issuing from the roof.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus gained access to the burning building and fought the fire from inside while protecting neighbouring homes from radiant heat.

It took firefighters less than30 minutes to gain the upper hand and get the fire under control.

Luckily, no one was home at the time.

The cause of the blaze will be investigated.
