MFB firefighters have stopped the spread of a fire which took hold of a building on High Street in Reservoir.

A number of callers to Triple Zero (000) reported thick smoke coming from the building just before 5pm.

Firefighters arrived on scene in less than seven minutes and were met with a fire that had engulfed the 10 x 20m building.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection, crews entered the burning building in an effort to put it out and conduct a search of the property.

At this stage there are no reports of injuries.

Their efforts ensured the fire was brought under control less than half an hour after the initial call to Triple Zero (000).

At the height of the fire there were seven firefighting appliances at the scene and more than 28 firefighters working to contain the blaze.

High Street is currently closed in both directions the community should ensure the roads are kept clear for emergency vehicles.

At this stage the cause of the blaze is unknown.
