Approximately 40 firefighters responded to three house fires in close proximity in St Albans overnight.

Numerous callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire at a Grantham Parade house just before 3:00am on Sunday morning.

MFB crews arrived on scene in six minutes to find a house well alight, and wearing breathing apparatus, began to attack the fire.

A few minutes later, further calls were received for a house fire approximately one kilometre away in Currunghi Court.

Firefighters arrived on scene in eight minutes to find a second house alight, with flames coming through the roof.

Both homes were uninhabited, with one under construction and the other a derelict building.

Just after 5:00am, another fire nearby was reported to Triple Zero, on Oleander Drive.

Firefighters arrived at the scene in six minutes to find another house well alight.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters brought it in under control in 45 minutes.

The house was under renovation and uninhabited, and residents on either side were evacuated as a precaution.

MFB firefighters deemed the circumstances to be suspicious and have handed the scenes over to Victoria Police for further investigation.
