MFB firefighters are currently at Millers Road, Altona, following a gas leak at a refinery.

Crews were called to the scene shortly after 7pm following calls to Triple Zero (000).

On arrival, MFB’s specialist HAZMAT teams commenced a thorough investigation and pinpointed the source of the gas leak to a pipe located in the diesel area of the plant.

Firefighters worked quickly to reduce the pressure and diminish the gas. The incident is under control and MFB is working closely with the refinery and other relevant agencies to stop the leak completely.

Crews will remain at the site until it can be handed back to the refinery.
