Firefighters free man from excavator in Clayton

Firefighters have freed a man after his leg became trapped in an excavator in Clayton this morning.

Three firefighting appliances including a heavy rescue appliance were dispatched to Wellington Road shortly after 8:15am.

The 55 year old man was stabilised at the scene by paramedics, before firefighters worked to free him.

It was a complex incident and crews were thankfully able to release the patient after half an hour.

The man was taken to hospital in the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

Victoria Police are on scene and WorkSafe has been notified.
