More than 20 firefighters battled a fire that broke out at multiple sheds in Port Melbourne this afternoon.

Crews were alerted to the blaze just after 1:30pm after a number of people called Triple Zero (000). Initial crews noted a significant amount of smoke and called for additional resources.

The blaze took hold of two sheds, measuring 10 meters by 5 meters at the rear of a commercial property.

The fire was declared under control in 16 minutes. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for some time. The community is asked to avoid Bay Street and Graham Street to allow for emergency services to work.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

Victoria Police and Ambulance are also in attendance.
