09 Mar 2014
Firefighters fought a large grass fire in Studley Park, Kew, on Sunday.

Located in rough terrain with difficult access, the fire took more than two hours to bring under control.

Lack of water availability also slowed initial extinguishment. The Department of Environment and Primary Industries assisted with providing slip-on appliances to access difficult areas.

Whilst there were few exposures, a nearby hospital was protected, and evacuations were not necessary.

Community warnings were issued due to the large amount of smoke in the area.

The fire was contained within a five-hectare perimeter and firefighters were on scene until early evening blackening out the fire.

The fire has been deemed suspicious by MFB Fire Investigators.  Police were on scene.

No. of FIREFIGHTERS: approx. 45
