A run to the shops proved a timely decision for a man who escaped a house fire in Abbotsford this morning.

MFB firefighters had been searching the home, in Studley Street Abbotsford, for its three occupants after the blaze erupted about 10.30am.
Luckily, it was quickly established that no one was inside when one of the occupants returned home from shopping to find the house in flames.
Around 20 firefighters battled to quickly contain the blaze, which caused significant damage to the brick veneer house.
Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for several hours.
