Two crews of MFB firefighters were responded to a Fire Indicator Panel (FIP) alarm at a high rise building on Lonsdale Street in Melbourne just before 10am.

Firefighters from South Melbourne arrived on scene in within five minutes and made their way to the 31st floor where a sprinkler had activated as a result of a fire.

On arrival crews came into contact with a resident of the affected apartment who required medical assistance.

Firefighters administered life-saving emergency medical response until the patient was transferred into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

The responding Firefighters then isolated the sprinkler and ensured a small fire was extinguished.

The incident is believed to be suspicious and has been referred to Victoria Police.
