07 May 2014
Fire has torn through a Balwyn North home overnight.

MFB received several calls from the public alerting them to the fire at the Stephens Street home just before 6am.

Despite reports from neighbours that the home was currently vacant, firefighters conducted a thorough search of the property wearing breathing apparatus.

About 18 firefighters battled the fire for 20 minutes, but unfortunately the home was severely damaged before firefighters could extinguish the blaze.

Thermal imaging cameras were used to detect any hot spots.

Fire investigators are on scene working to determine the cause of the blaze. Firefighters will remain on scene into the morning.
