28 Oct 2019
More than 35 firefighters were called to a factory on Dohertys Road in Laverton North after a concrete bulk container full of timber pallets and cardboard caught alight.

Initial crews arrived to the scene at around 8pm, and escalated the response shortly after.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the thick smoke, crews set about knocking down the fire.

Swift work from crews meant that the fire was brought under control within half an hour of their arrival on scene.

Approximately 50 people evacuated the factory; and thankfully there are no reports of injury.

Firefighters are currently working to completely extinguish any remaining hot spots.

At this stage it’s not known what caused the fire to start, but investigations will commence once the area has been made safe.

At the height of the incident 10 appliances were on scene, including seven pumpers, a rescue unit, one aerial teleboom and a Command unit.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are supporting MFB at the scene.
