Fire destroys two Beaumaris homes

Two houses were destroyed and residents were lucky to escape a large fire in Beaumaris.

Fire crews from MFB and CFA were called to the Wells Road incident just after 1.30pm.

A female occupant, her nine-year-old son and a dog evacuated quickly from the house where the fire is believed to have originated from.  The second house was not occupied at the time.

Two houses of timber and tile construction both two storey were extensively damaged by fire.

The fire spread quickly and thick black smoke could be seen from kilometres away.

MFB and CFA responded 14 appliances, including aerial appliances and specialist Breathing Apparatus appliances, with 65 firefighters on scene.

The fire took approximately one hour to control and is currently under investigation as to the cause.

Damage is expected to exceed one million dollars.
