A house has been destroyed by a fire in Glenroy overnight.

Just before 4am, MFB received several calls to Triple Zero (000) to respond to a house fire on Hartington street.

MFB crews arrived on scene within eight minutes to find the house alight with the fire extending to the roof.

Upon arrival, firefighters conducted a search to confirm no one was at home at the time.

In an effort to contain the blaze, firefighters launched an external attack on the fire and used an aerial firefighting appliance to douse the flames from above.

The incident was declared under control at 4:25am, with MFB crews to remain on scene throughout the morning.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined by MFB fire investigators.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were also on scene assisting.
