The fire was first reported by a passing police unit with one of the officers kicking in the back door trying to rescue anyone who may have been trapped inside.

It was later revealed that the owners are away interstate and attempts are being made to contact them.  The blaze appears to have started in the rear of the dwelling before spreading to engulf the entire roof.  Any room that was lucky enough to escape the flames was nevertheless damaged by heat and smoke.

The fire took just over half an hour to bring under control but more than two hours to extinguish.  The damage bill has been estimated at $150,000 and the cause has yet to be determined.

22 firefighters turned out to the fire.
