Fire at tissue manufacturing facility in Laverton North

MFB firefighters are currently responding to a fire at a tissue manufacturing facility in Laverton North following several Triple Zero (000) calls just after 2pm.

Crews arrived within nine minutes to find several large bales of tissue and recycled paper on fire.

At the height of the incident, more than 15 appliances were on scene including an aerial appliance tackling the blaze from above. 

The incident was declared under control just before 4pm. 

A community warning was issued due to smoke in the area and residents are advised to close windows and door. 

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are assisting, with MFB crews to remain on scene for some time. 

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
