More than 20 firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish a fire that broke out at a Deer Park restaurant this morning.

MFB crews were alerted of the incident at Ballarat Road just before 10am and arrived within four minutes of receiving the call.

The two storey building comprised of a residential dwelling upstairs and a restaurant on the lower level.

There was evidence to suggest a person may have been inside and firefighters in breathing apparatuses immediately undertook a search in the smoke filled building.

Thankfully no one was inside and firefighters focused their efforts to contain the blaze to the kitchen area. The fire was declared under control in 25 minutes.

Two occupants of the building were treated for smoke inhalation on scene by paramedics.

MFB Fire Investigators are on scene and working to determine the cause.
