Local residents evacuated and response upgraded

Just after 10pm tonight MFB received several calls for a fire in a block of units under construction in Dunstan Street, Clayton, that was threatening a block of occupied units next door.

Arriving on scene the first crews evacuated local residents and upgraded the response, which resulted in fifty firefighters from both MFB and CFA responding to the fire.

Quick work by the crews prevented further damage to the adjoining units and the blaze was brought under control in thirty four minutes.

An MFB firefighter sustained a minor injury on scene and was cleared after an examination from Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

MFB will remain on scene overnight and fire investigators will attend in the morning to determine the cause.
