A family has escaped unharmed after their home caught fire early Saturday morning.

MFB firefighters were called the property on Trevascus St just after midnight after a resident called Triple Zero (000) and reported that a light fitting had caught fire.

Crews arrived within three minutes and discovered the fire had extended from a bathroom light into the roof space of the double storey home.

Due to the location of the fire access proved difficult and additional resources were dispatched.

More than 20 firefighters worked to bring the fire under control in less than an hour.

MFB fire investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
