More than 25 firefighters responded to a factory fire in Brunswick East following a number of Triple Zero (000) calls early Saturday morning.

Initial crews arrived in minutes to find the single storey premise on Kirkdale Street producing a significant amount of smoke and immediately requested additional resources.

The building was difficult to access and crews used cutting equipment to enter the building.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus launched an aggressive attack and were able to contain the fire to the rear of the property.

The incident was declared under control at 6:09am.

Firefighters concluded there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze and the scene has been handed over to Victoria Police.
