An electrical fault has been determined as the cause of a fire which ripped through a St Kilda East house last night.

MFB firefighters were called to the Denman Street address shortly before 8.30pm and arrived on scene in five minutes to find flames coming from the rear of the home.

Firefighters were concerned that neighbouring properties were under threat and quickly entered the building to battle the blaze from inside.

Luckily, all occupants had evacuated prior to MFB's arrival.

The fire was under control in less than an hour.

MFB Fire Investigators conducted an investigation at the scene of the blaze this morning and determined that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
