An elderly lady had a lucky escape after a fire engulfed her Mulgrave home this afternoon.

The fire is believed to have began in a rooftop cooling unit just before 6pm, causing extensive damage to the roof, kitchen and bedroom of the property.
Firefighters from MFB and CFA arrived quickly and worked to contain the fire and stop it from spreading.
A neighbour had spotted this smoke and evacuated the elderly occupant from the home.
The occupants will be staying with family for Christmas Eve.
