Approximately 20 Firefighters were dispatched after reports a heavy duty boring crane had collapsed onto a home in Strathmore just after 3pm this afternoon.

An elderly couple thankfully managed to escape without serious injury after the crane collapsed from an adjacent property into the centre of their Woodland Street home.

The residents were treated at the scene by Ambulance Victoria for shock, and the crane driver managed to escape without injury.

Unfortunately the single story brick home has sustained significant damage and the occupants are seeking alternative accommodation.

MFB firefighters and specially trained rescue operators will remain on scene into the night and until the crane has been removed safely.

The local building surveyor is in attendance and WorkSafe is on scene conducting investigations.
