Friday Display Cancelled

The MFB’s popular Friday Firefighting Display at Eastern Hill has been cancelled again this week following the diesel spill which has caused the temporary closure of the complex.

Firefighters have been providing fire and emergency services from stations around the CBD fringe, but the one service they can’t provide without access to the Eastern Hill complex is the Friday Display.

“It’s rare we have to cancel the Display. It’s a very popular fixture and one the crews stationed at Eastern Hill are rightly proud of,” said MFB CEO Nick Easy.

“A lot of young children and their parents come to the display. It’s a great way for them to learn about fire safety and meet firefighters under positive circumstances. So we’re also disappointed to have to cancel, but it is necessary.”

The reoccupation process has been progressing with final tests likely to be complete by Friday.

“If all goes as we hope and the necessary approvals are received from our independent experts we plan to re-occupy the station on Saturday and the offices on Monday. But only if we have those approvals.”
