MFB firefighters have worked to free a driver who became trapped after their car crashed into a house in Bendigo Street in Collingwood at around 4am this morning.

Initial crews arrived on scene in just five minutes to find a driver trapped in the vehicle which was balanced on its front, with the rear end approximately 1.5 metres into the air.

Making use of specialist rescue equipment, firefighters undertook the delicate job of stabilizing the vehicle to ensure it was safe to free the driver.

Their careful work ensure the driver was freed just half an hour later and handed over into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

A building surveyor from the local council will attend the scene today to assess any structural damage to the house.
