Firefighters have responded to a grass fire near Bramble Cr in Bundoora near the Blau Street Park.

MFB was alerted to the fire after a community member called Triple Zero (000) at around 12:45pm.

The first responding crews arrived on scene within seven minutes and were met with a fire that was spreading through a grass and wetland area and emitting a large amount of smoke.

Crews called for additional resources to be despatched and began working to contain the fire, and stop it from spreading to neighbouring houses.

The grassfire travelled from Darebin Creek Linear Reserve in a northerly towards Bramble Cresent.

At the height of the incident there were eight MFB firefighting appliances on scene in addition to five support and command units, as well as CFA appliances.

Crews worked together and the fire was brought under control just before 2:30pm.

The blaze is not believed to be suspicious.

MFB issued an advice message for Bundoora and Thomastown.
