08 May 2019
MFB firefighters were called to a chemical spill at Fitzgerald Rd in Laverton North at 10:48am.

The substance was quickly identified as hydrofluoric acid which was found to be leaking from a drum.

More than 25 firefighters in breathing apparatus and fully encapsulated chemical suits worked to clean up the substance.

The site was deemed safe at 4:40pm and handed back to the owner.

Due to the nature of the chemical, MFB firefighters were monitored at the site by paramedics. Five firefighters were assessed at the scene and transported to hospital for observation. They were released a short time later.
