A freezer kept in a garage has sparked a blaze in Ringwood North this morning.

Firefighters were called to the home at Felix Court about 7.15 this morning after the garage, with two cars inside, went up in flames.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the garage and fought the fire internally, managing to stop it from spreading to the attached house.

It took 20 firefighters about 25 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The garage and its contents were destroyed in the fire.

A 70-year-old man was transported by Ambulance Victoria to hospital for observation.

Fire Investigators have determined the blaze was sparked by an electrical fault with a freezer unit kept in the garage.

MFB is urging community members to ensure all electrical appliances are kept in good working order and not left to overcharge.
