MFB firefighters have responded to a unit fire in Carnegie following a single call to triple-zero at 4.31pm this afternoon.

The first crews arrived on scene at the Toolambool Road complex in under five minutes.

On arrival firefighters found a unit in a two-storey brick apartment block, well alight and entering the roof space.

All occupants of the unit involved had self evacuated prior to MFB arriving.

The whole complex was evacuated and 2 occupants were rescued via a ladder from the second floor.

Firefighters in Breathing Apparatus aggressively attacked the fire.

Ambulance Victoria were requested to attend to two persons suffering with smoke inhalation.

The fire was declared under control at 4.55pm.

Asbestos procedures have been implemented due to the age of the building.

A cause is yet to be determined.
