Two people are safe after their car drove through a fence and stopped on top of rocks near the edge of the water.

Crews were alerted to the incident just after 8pm after a passer-by saw the car sitting just off of the Altona boat ramp.

Specialist resources including MFB’s fireboat were dispatched to the scene however; the first arriving crew quickly secured the area and additional resources we not required.

The driver and the passenger were able evacuate with the assistance from people in the area.

Victoria Police also assisted at the scene.
