Brunswick East cafe fire

MFB crews were called to a fire at a row of converted garages on Lygon St at 2:14am this morning.

Converted to a cafe entertaining area, two of the three garages were well involved in fire when first crews arrived.

Three occupants residing on the top floor of a nearby property were evacuated safely.

The blaze was brought under control in 25 minutes and the evacuees were able to return home.

Crews remained on scene overnight to maintain fire duties.

The local building surveyor has been advised to assess the structures.

The cause of the fire is unknown and MFB Fire Investigators will attend.
