Bridge Road gas leak

MFB firefighters and specialist HAZMAT technicians responded to an incident on Bridge Road in Richmond just after 10:30am this morning, after a passer-by made the call to Triple Zero (000) reporting a strong smell of gas.

MFB crews arrived within six minutes and discovered a gas line ruptured by workers.

Traffic and trams on Bridge Rd were stopped as firefighters used a spray to disperse the vapours. Crews are using Specialist Air Monitoring equipment is to check on explosive levels in the area.

The incident was declared under control after 7 minutes. However, MFB firefighters will remain on scene for some time until the gas mains have been isolated and the area has been made safe.

The community is advised to avoid the area while emergency services respond.

Victoria Police is on scene assisting with traffic management and three people have been assessed by Ambulance Victoria.
