Two houses in Coburg have been destroyed by fire, with several residents receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.

On Wednesday January 2 just after 4pm, MFB firefighters responded to a fire in Fowler Street, Coburg.

They arrived on scene to find a brick residence fully involved in fire. Three children and their father had evacuated from their home and were treated by Ambulance Victoria for minor smoke inhalation.  This home has been destroyed by fire.

Being of extremely close vicinity, the neighbouring house had also caught fire.  The lone male occupant self-evacuated and was attempting to extinguish the fire when crews arrived.

An aggressive firefighting attack by MFB firefighters stopped further spread of fire, but unfortunately, the fire had already entered the roof space and caused significant damage.

One MFB firefighter has received minor burns to his neck and was treated on scene by paramedics.

Eight MFB appliances attended the scene, with approximately 25 firefighters.
Specialist MFB Fire Investigators are currently on scene to determine the cause of the fire which is currently unknown.
