Firefighters early this morning were confronted with a single storey house in Blackburn fully involved in fire.

Crews were called to the Canora Street home at 3.57am.

The house was fully involved and took units 30 minutes to bring under control.

Breathing apparatus was in use and special procedures in place due to the possible presence of asbestos.

Damage bill to exceed $200,000.

The cause will be investigated by the fire investigation unit at first light this morning.

Crews will be on scene for the rest of the morning.

The family of three was alerted via a smoke alarm. It's been a run of bad luck for the family, as the home had suffered some serious damage the week before in storms that hit the area.
