01 Dec 2019
More than 25 firefighters have extinguished a blaze that broke out at a home in Balwyn North early this evening.

Crews were called to the two storey residence on Belmore Road just before 5pm after a number of callers sighted smoke, embers and flames coming from the property.

Upon arrival firefighters discovered the fire started in the rear of the building and spread into the roof space. Donned in breathing apparatus, crews commenced an internal attack on the blaze and their efforts contained the fire from spreading to the rest of the property.

The fire was declared under control after 46 minutes.

One person was home at the time of the incident and safety evacuated prior to MFB’s arrival.

At the height of the blaze there were eight appliances on scene including a teleboom and a commander unit.

The cause of the fire is unknown and will be investigated.
