Balcony fire in Melbourne CBD

Approximately 30 firefighters were called to an apartment building on Exploration Lane in Melbourne's CBD on Thursday night.

Approximately 150 occupants evacuated after a fire broke out on a tenth floor balcony just before 9:30pm and evacuated.

Multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported seeing flames coming from the balcony.

Ten MFB crews arrived on scene within just four minutes and wearing breathing apparatus for their protection, worked to stop the fire from spreading.

Crews contained the fire to the balcony and adjacent room.

Firefighters believe the blaze started in an air conditioning unit on the balcony.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported however Ambulance Victoria paramedics are on scene monitoring the health of attending firefighters.
