MFB crews were called to Morphett Avenue shortly before 9pm, following a Triple Zero (000) call reporting smoke issuing from a house.

Firefighters arrived within 6 minutes to the Ascot Vale home.

Approximately 30 firefighters began attacking the blaze and worked quickly to remove sheets of corrugated iron to gain access to the roof.

Crews located the seat of the fire in the rear section of the roof and were able to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was declared under control less than 30 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene.

It is believed the fire was caused by an external security spotlight that overheated weatherboard panels on the home.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria crews assisted on scene.
