Abandoned house alight in Fawkner

MFB firefighters have extinguished a fire that broke out at a Fawkner home this evening.

A passer-by noticed flames coming from the single storey house on Williams St at 6:39pm and called Triple Zero (000).

Within minutes firefighters were on scene and found the fire located in the rear of the property.

The fire moved quickly causing damage the bedroom area and the roof. Crews were able to protect surrounding structures and the fire was declared under control within 20 minutes.

Firefighters conducted a search of the property to ensure no one was inside but it’s believed the house was abandoned.

There were suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and the scene has been handed Victoria Police to investigate.
