170 evacuated from fire at St Katherine’s restaurant in Kew.

MFB firefighters arrived at this well known Middle Eastern cuisine restaurant, to find a fire on the top floor of the three storey brick building.

170 patrons were evacuated orderly and safely by St. Katherine’s staff members. Commander Stockton was complimentary of their actions.

The fire was well developed in a concealed storage area and had further entered into the roof space causing significant damage.  Smoke has also caused damage to the upper dining area. The fire had started around the outside of a wood fire pizza flue and spread into the upper areas. 

MFB firefighters remained on scene for 3 hours to clean up and ensure complete extinguishment of the fire.

Approximately 25 firefighters attended.
