Fatalities at house fire Clayton - on the first day of winter.

MFB crews were called to the scene of a fatal house fire in Clayton South in the early hours of this morning.

After battling the blaze a search was mounted and the bodies of the occupants discovered.

When the initial MFB crews sighted smoke in the vicinity they called in additional resources including CFA. The home was heavily engulfed in fire when they arrived.

The roof of the building and a rear extension was close to collapsing. After extensive firefighting the blaze was brought under control in around 40 minutes.

MFB fire investigators are working closely with police to establish the cause.

No estimates of damage or further details are available.
